1776. A storm, some sailors in trouble, a promise. That is how devotion to the Cristo del Socorro was born, patron of those who risk their lives at sea — and its feast, every 5 February, has recalled it ever since.
The church is 18th-century Baroque, built so close to the sand that the tide rises almost to its walls. Few churches in the world hear the waves from the altar.
