On Salvador Escandón there is a bakery where the bread holds up all day without losing its composure and the bollos preñaos (chorizo rolls) are famous across Gozón. It is called Avendaño, and it is an institution.
Their tuna empanada is one of those you order for the festivities, and the welcome across the counter is of a kind that hardly exists any more.
It also opens on Sunday mornings — because Sunday bread is sacred.
